Promising three-year-old Silver Falls is set to enhance what has become a strong country form race when he resumes at Moonee Valley.

The gelding won his race debut at Geelong but at his next start finished third in a class field at Sale on August 25.

Five of the other nine runners at Sale have since gone on to contest stakes races including runner-up Sharnee Rose who was third to Atlantic Jewel in the Group One Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield.

Meethaq finished fourth at Sale before winning at Caulfield and last start was fifth in the Group Three Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.

Scelto (fifth) also proved himself in better company finishing third in the Group Two Mitchelton Wines Vase (2040m) on Cox Plate Day and eighth in the Victoria Derby.

Sixth and seventh placegetters Fast Bucks and Rampling also went on to compete at stakes level.

Trainer Wendy Kelly is not too sure how much to make of Silver Falls’ performance among such horses but is hopeful that in time, he can join a few of them in better races.

“I think he’s a nice city class type of horse and it will be interesting to see what he does first-up on Saturday,” Kelly said.

“We want to find what level he is at and hopefully he can run well.

“We are bringing him back at this time of the year to miss the spring horses but it is still a step up in grade for him.”

All 10 runners in Saturday’s Rockwell Automation Handicap (1000m) are winners.

Dwayne Dunn has ridden Silver Falls at both his starts and will ride the son of Bel Esprit again on Saturday.

Trainer Mick Price plays a double hand in the race with Moonee Valley debut winner Roxit and Miss Mazzeo who was a Geelong debut winner and last start third at Echuca.

The Anthony Freedman-trained Rescue Mission is a Moonee Valley and Ballarat winner while the other dual winner in the field is the Matt Laurie-trained Gotta Laugh who has scored at Moe and Cranbourne.

Laurie also has the most experienced runner in the field, The Counterfeiter, who has raced 10 times and last start was third behind African Pulse and Karuta Queen at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.
